Storage is always at a premium in your Overlanding vehicle, RV, or adventure van. That’s why using a tried and true system like MOLLE makes a lot of sense. I like When you use MOLLE, you can customize your gear to fit your specific needs and space consideration. MOLLE stands for modular lightweight load-carrying equipment. MOLLE is made of tightly woven nylon fabric called PALS (pouch attachment ladder system). PALS can be stitched onto backpacks, vests, and other gear. I personally use the BuiltRight Industries Seat Back Tech Plate MOLLE kit which is a steel molle panel made to perfectly fit my Ford F150 Raptor seats. I would love to see this option in the Mercedes Sprinter when my Airstream Interstate 24x arrives, though I am not sure that the seats could spin around with the rigid plates attached.
Steel MOLLE Panels for Seatback Organization
There are many great options for nylon seat back covers. These are nice because they are one size fits most. However, in my F150 Raptor, I really wanted a tough option with a perfect fit. I also liked the fact that they were metal so I could attach magnetic attachments to the MOLLE panel when I didn’t want to use PALS.
For example, I like to attach my favorite Overlanding Paper Towel Holder, which has magnets. I also attach a WARSUN LED Rechargeable Work Light (affiliate link)that I can use to work on the truck or attach to any of the steel parts of my truck.
The Seat Back Tech Plate MOLLE Kit BACK has upper and lower steel brackets as well as a pair of machined aluminum headrest loop brackets to securely mount the BuiltRight Tech Plate MOLLE panel to the driver or passenger seat back.
Most MOLLE panel seatback organizers are made of nylon and are made to fit as a one-size fits all configuration. Great for manufacturers because a one-size-fits-all kit is ideal, but not great for users that need to know that their panel isn’t going anywhere. Their rigid mounted solution ensures that your seats aren’t damaged by straps, hardware, or the panel itself.
- Laser-cut and CNC formed for a perfect fit
- Black texture powder coat for corrosion resistance
- Strong 11 gauge steel construction
- MOLLE/PALS compatible mounting features
- Attaches rigidly at the top and bottom of the seat back
- Allows seat to recline without issue
Summary
I love my set-up in my truck because it allows me to customize both my gear and Woodford’s gear. I buy most of my MOLLE accessories on Amazon. For those bags that are stationary in my truck, I usually don’t worry about their durability. If I was moving them to my hiking or camping kit, I’d be a little more critical.
