There are many great things about the Ford's 6th generation SUV, though interior lighting isn't one of them. With the removable top, there's no dome light, and in my 4-door 2022 Ford Bronco Badlands, it seemed like a cave. My Bronco came with ambient lighting, but frankly, when it was on it was so dim, I hardly noticed. The Ford supplied lights also have very weak bulbs, and as I understand it, they are not upgradeable or at least not easily. So the only option I had was to add lighting.

Cargo Area Interior Light

When I went through my gear in the cargo area, it was difficult to sort through it, especially with my dark interior. So I went down a rabbit hole of what I needed. There are some options that I have that are simple and turnkey, and some that are more geared at the DIYer. I decided to

One fairly turnkey option was the Oracle Lighting LED Cargo Light Module (affiliate link), which was an option for Bronco hardtops replacing the trim piece over the rear wiper motor. This solution is nice from the standpoint that the fit and finish looks mostly factory, but I am not a fan of powering the light from an external wire via the cigarette lighter port.
I like having the wires as tucked away as possible. So I went another way. Though if you aren't interested in doing any custom wiring, I think this is the best option I have seen.

I watched Shocker Racing Garage's tutorial on how he upgraded his Bronco with LED lights from Amazon, and it inspired me.

Custom Badland's Cargo Lighting

This inspired me to come up with my own solution. I ended up buying two Booya lighting kits from Amazon. In addition, I also bought a pigtail so that I could use one switch to operate both sets of lights without doing any custom wiring.

As an experiment, I am adding these LED covers (affiliate link) to give them a more finished look, but I may sacrifice aesthetics for more light. We'll see how that works out. Also in keeping with my theme of Badlands orange and making things look factory, I added an orange lighted switch. To get what I needed, I bought this variety pack of switches for one switch. I tucked the LED bar above the window on the hard top to provide amble light in the cargo area.

I am also playing around with the placement of the light bar on the window to provide lighting around the outside of the cargo area to light the tailgate mounted table. That's why I got the pigtail so I could control both lighting bars from the same switch.

Update: I ditched the LED covers and second LED light bar and just stuck with the single LED strip attached to the hard top.

Temporary Light Solution for the Bronco

Finally, if all this is too complicated, I found an effective temporary solution. I have two magnetic Warsun Worklights (affiliate links), these are nice for lighting up the area. They are rechargeable via USB, and can be used for working on your Bronco. They are also easily moved to the tailgate table to light your cooking surface.

Ambient Lighting

I looked at many options, but the one that seemed the best was this kit from F150 LEDS. There are seven zone lighting kits, which allowed me to quickly wire and integrate LED lights. Installation was fairly easy, and I was able to power the lights from a fuse-tap via the fuse box below the steering wheel. I thought the price was a little high, but customers benefit from a thoughtful and easy install design.

The zones included adjustable interior lights below both the driver and passenger seat, in the center console, and in the driver and passenger footwell. You simply pop down the plastic panel below the steering wheel and install a fuse tap on the designated fuse. Then you use that pigtail to plug into a block that you can mount below. Just tuck up the excess wire into the space above and ziptie it if you want to be sure it stays bundled.

Mark's Tip
If you have a speaker grate where the audio detector box and IR receiver is supposed to be mounted you can mount it back farther, for no drill installation. I used a piece of outdoor velcro to keep the box stationary but allowed me to move it around until I found a spot that I could still operate the remote but kept things out of sight. Also they suggest a screwdriver to pop open the center console, I suggest using a plastic body tool.

Dome Light Kit

Probably my biggest complaint about the interior of my Ford Bronco was the lack of a dome light. Of course, with a removable molded-in-color (MIC) roof, it doesn't allow for the installation of a dome light. Many times, I was looking for things that fell on the floor and needed to grab a flashlight to see. So when IAG Performance came out with their 4-piece Interior Dome Light Kit (affiliate link) I was very excited about their solution.

It's not the easiest install, and requires a lot of work to get it installed, including pulling off trim and running wires to all four seat locations. Though I must commend them on some of the best install videos I have seen from any vendor.

However, with this product, it's worth the effort. I have installed them, and after a few tweaks to make sure they cleared the hard top, I can say they do an amazing job lighting up my Bronco's cabin.

Great Impoved Bronco Interior Lighting

Once installed, these solutions greatly improved the interior light in my Bronco. But still, the vehicle interior is a bit dark, especially at night. The ambient light greatly improves visibility in the front seats, but in the cramped rear seat area it's less effective. Because it's LED lighting, it gives you the option to match the color to your mood. In my case, I set it to Badlands orange to match my interior style, or if you had an Outer Banks, you could set it to blue to match the logo, or whatever color makes you happy.

My favorite upgrade off all these would have to be the IAG dome lights. They brighten the whole interior, and if I had any complaints with them, it is that they might even be too bright. They come on automatically with the factory interior lights.

As I said, interior light was perhaps my biggest gripe about the new Gen6 Bronco, but with these modifications it made things much better.
