We all know that one of the best things about owning an RV is the freedom it gives you to go anywhere and do anything. But what if there’s one thing holding you back from taking your rig on that epic road trip you’ve been dreaming of? No, we’re not talking about lack of storage space—we’re talking about lack of showering capability! Sure, you can use a public restroom or campground shower if necessary, but wouldn’t it be so much more convenient (not to mention refreshing) to have your very own shower right in your RV? With an adventure van shower kit, you can have just that!

Indoor Showers
If you’re like me, the thought of being cramped in a small space with hardly any ventilation is not appealing. But don’t worry, there are many indoor shower design options that can make your experience more comfortable. I will outline some of the best designs for vans and RVs, and provide information on where to find them. So whether you’re just starting out on your RV adventure or looking for an upgrade, read on for some ideas!
The Wet Bath
One of my requirements for my adventure van was to have a dedicated bathroom. This is an option that isn’t for everyone. I prefer to shower in my van, and that was part of the deciding features when choosing the Airstream Interstate 24x.
The Walk Through
The Hidden Shower Pan
As I mentioned before one of my favorite custom adventure van builders is Zenvanz, they build their campervans with a shower pan right inside the sliding door of the van to preserve space. It’s also very practical if you choose to shower outside.
The Rear Shower
Perhaps my favorite van layout of all times is Shaiden Valentine‘s design, with a rear bath and shower that have ample space to do your business and rinse off after a long day of hiking or biking.
Outdoor Showers
Van life is all about embracing the outdoors and taking advantage of your surroundings. One way to make your outdoor experience even better is by installing an outdoor shower. Not only does this add a little bit of luxury to your adventure, but it also comes in handy for rinsing off after a day at the beach or a hike. If you’re thinking of adding an outdoor shower to your rig, here are some tips on how to get started.
Outdoor Shower Wand
Many vans provide an outdoor shower option, where you can use an outside shower wand to rinse off your gear or take a shower. One innovative way to do this is with the Vandoit Shower Stall, which provides a compact shower stall mounted on the back door of your van. You can then use the wand accessible via your garage to wash off in privacy.
Stand Alone Recycling Shower
One option I have been seriously considering is the portable outdoor shower, which works great for the RV or camper alike. The shower offers a private place for you to shower, and recycles the water so that you can get a shower for as long as you like. Or you can open the drain and only use the fresh water source.
Shower Pro Tips
When it comes to van dwellers and showering, water conservation is always a consideration. Unless you are hooked up to an external water source, you will have very limited water. That’s why you will want to conserve water and the weight it adds to your vehicle whenever you can.
The Navy Shower
Navy showers, also known as bucket showers, are a great way to conserve water. The basic idea is to turn the water on to wet your body, turn it off to soap up, and then turn it on again to rinse off. By doing this, you can save a significant amount of water compared to a traditional shower. Navy showers can be especially helpful during times of drought or water shortages. In addition, they can be a great way to save money on your water bill. Navy showers are also popular among campers and hikers as a way to conserve water while travelling. So, if you’re looking for a way to save water and money, consider taking a Navy shower the next time you hop in the shower.
Low Flow Shower Heads
A low flow shower head is a shower head that is designed to use less water than a traditional shower head. Low flow shower heads are an important tool in water conservation, as they can help reduce the amount of water used in your adventure van. There are a number of different types of low flow shower heads available on the market, and they can vary in terms of their flow rate and water usage.
Shower Mat for Outdoor showers
It’s fine to shower outside, but you can’t always depend on finding a place that won’t turn into a mud puddle. Having a water resistant platform like a teak bath mat can provide a place to keep feet clean during your shower.
Wipes for CleanUps Between Showers
Taking a shower uses up a lot of water. In fact, the average shower uses about 17 gallons (64 liters) of water. This won’t work for RV dwellers. That’s why it’s important to take shorter showers and conserve water where we can. However, there are times when we just can’t take a shower, like when we’re in a hurry or we’re at the gym. That’s where baby wipes come in handy. Baby wipes are pre-moistened with water, and they’re perfect for quick cleanups between showers. Plus, they’re much more efficient than paper towels or dry cloths, which require water to wet them down before use. So next time you need to freshen up, but you don’t have time for a shower, reach for some baby wipes instead.
Keep Clean in your Camper Van
Whether you choose to install an outdoor shower to enjoy the summer weather or want an indoor shower for privacy and convenience, it’s important that your shower meets your needs. Take some time to think about what you want in a shower and what will work best for your lifestyle before making a purchase. And if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach, happy to chat!
